TIP n°1
 TRANSMISSION CHAIN

Rear of JP Maugin's car

I HEARD SO MUCH WRONG ABOUT THIS SILLY CHAIN !
To avoid seize-up of the chain it must be a low quality, even very low.
This because centrifugal force in curves twist the chain and that forces on the small links
when chain roll arond pinion gear, widening the small links.
A low range chain has a lot gap between external and internal tablets as well as between
rolls and tablets what delays the phenomenon.

WITH A NEW CHAIN, WHEN YOU NOTICE A SEIZE-UP:
- pull the chain out
- with a plier whith flat thin beaks tighten tablets of the small links one to one until what they are free.
- re-mount chain on the car.
It is necessary to repeat this operation 2 to 3 time and then your chain will be OK for all the season.

THE LUBRICATION
What you need:
- 2 pots of jam in glass with metal lid
- téflon lubricant in bomb
- oils bomb (Bel-Ray 6/1 or equivalent)
- unnatural alcohol or the White spirit
- scrap
- a calendar to think of make it BEFORE the race

Clean the chain in the glass pot by leaving it to soak in the alcohol or the White spirit during 24 hours. Not to forget to put the lid. Take the chain and drain it. Then in a second pot in glass, make a mixture of 2/3 teflon lubricant + 1/3 of oil ( no WD40 it is too fluid) on 1cm heigh. Soak the chain inside and put a litlle of alcohol, to close the pot and to stir, the alcohol is going to render the mixture homogeneous. Wait a night, exit the chain and rinse. Put on the car. After 20 to 30 minutes of practice, I apply a litlle teflon lubricant in bomb before the qualification heats.

CONCLUSION
Processed thus, my 2 chains hold all the season. Those who race the final is put for free practice
& qualifs of the next race.

PS. For those who live in country where lawers are quicker than our cars, protect your hands, eyes etc..
Don't forget that solder iron are hot, AC current is dangerous, griding and percing tools, manuals or automatic, can also cut you ! Oil and unnatural alcohol are not to drink. Be careful when crossing the road. This site and contributors of this site are not responsible if you misanderstood those texts or don't be careful with tools.
